Koko Marina Center 60th Anniversary

Koko Marina Center Celebrates 60th Anniversary with Old & New Tenants!

(Honolulu, HAWAII) – Koko Marina Center (KMC) is proud to celebrate 60 years of community! Henry J. Kaiser’s vision has stood the test of time and continues as tenants “Make Life Fun” with a variety of unique shops, restaurants, activities, and services where everyone is welcome to enjoy the beautiful marina front location in East Oahu.

With legacy tenants, like Cosmopolitan Sun Shop (est. 1975), First Hawaiian BankHawaii Water Sports Center (formerly Suyderhoud Water Ski Center, est. 1973), Straub Clinic and Zippy’s, we are happy to welcome a few new tenants hoping to continue the tradition as well as several tenants celebrating milestone anniversaries.

Recently opened tenant Balanced Brain’s Center for Mindfulness and Neurotherapy, introduces new wave technology for healing. Jewels & Diamonds, continues their 50 years of business in a new location at KMC (next to Walgreens). And follow your nose to a new eatery, La Liegeoise, offering a taste from Belgium where you can find both savory and sweet waffle concoctions.

The Mango Tree Fitness and Muay Thai offers a family friendly environment with professionally trained coaches in the fields of martial arts, women’s specific fitness, personal fitness coaching and nutrition. They will be hosting a grand opening on June 10th with inter-island fighters from the WBC (World Boxing Council). Rich Delos Reyes, co-owner, is the WBC Team USA Head Coach and is developing a team from Hawaii to train for the Olympics. He will be traveling to Venice, Italy, for the WBC Muay Thai World Festival (an international competition) on June 22-26, which will hopefully lead to Muay Thai qualifying for the first time ever in the 2024 Olympic games!

Aloha Boat Charters has also dropped anchor at KMC’s docks offering all private charters for snorkeling adventures, sunrise/sunset cruises, fishing expeditions and Waikiki Friday Night Fireworks viewings accommodating almost any type of event from birthday parties to weddings. Captain Scott and Crew member Chris are military veterans with a common goal to offer water related activities that create happy memories for locals and visitors.

Honoring his 73rd year of cultivating mental focus, personal integrity and perseverance, Cho’s Tae Kwon Do Academy is celebrating 20 years at Koko Marina Center with a new studio. Ranging from 3 years old to adults past retirement, students practice a foundation of humility in the quest for inner harmony and healthy human relationships. At 83 years of age, Grandmaster Hee Ill Cho, former world champion and ninth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, is a living treasure who continues to teach with remarkable stamina, speed, strength, and dexterity, while maintaining a gentle and respectful demeanor and the ability to know what each student needs most in the moment.

According to Dr. Ira Zunin, who has trained with Grandmaster Cho for 47 years, “Whether it is the study and practice of medicine, a triathlon or long blue water voyages on Hokulea’s worldwide voyage, there is a pervasive sense that Grandmaster saves my life each and every day.”

Also celebrating its 20th year at the center, Kona Brewing Hawaii Kai is inspired by a traditional Hawaiian canoe house. The pub is set on the docks of Koko Marina and provides outstanding views of the water and the lush surrounding valley. What’s more, the open-air seating allows for a relaxed atmosphere to best enjoy fresh beer on tap and the perfect menu items to match.

With 60 years of history, everyone has a favorite memory at Koko Marina Center…from the annual Christmas and boat parades to the numerous keiki hula shows hosted in the Marina Courtyard over the years. From June 1 – 30, share photos and memories at Koko Marina Center by following @kokomarinacenter on social media for a chance to win tenant prizes or a two-night stay at the Mauna Kea Hotel on Hawaii island.
