Celeste Lajala Named SilverSneakers Instructor of the Year at 24 Hour Fitness in Koko Marina Center
Award-winning kupuna instructor brings energy, joy, and community to senior fitness classes
At 24 Hour Fitness in Koko Marina Center, Celeste Lajala is leading a fitness movement that’s transforming the lives of Hawaii’s seniors. Recently named the 2025 SilverSneakers National Instructor of the Year, Celeste was selected from thousands of instructors nationwide—an honor made even more meaningful because her own students nominated her.
A retired physician and professor, Celeste launched her first class with just two participants. Today, her six classes serve over 120 kupuna weekly, blending cardio, resistance training, and balance exercises with joy, laughter, and community.
To keep classes exciting, she personally provides drums, hula hoops, ribbons, and parachutes—turning each session into a fun, interactive celebration. “This isn’t just a class. This is my family,” she says.
Outside of workouts, the group enjoys holiday dress-ups, singing, games, potlucks, and lunch outings that support other local Koko Marina Center businesses. It’s fitness with heart—and proof that it’s never too late to get moving.
